Condensation or wastewater is a byproduct of high efficiency furnaces, air conditioning evaporator coils, and flow- through humidifiers. A condensate pump is used to transfer this wastewater to a proper drain.

 

    Condensate pumps are usually required in when installing an air conditioning system in a home or area that has not had air conditioning before.  There are some homes, believe it or not, that are still only equipped with heaters and sometimes window air conditioners.  Occasionally, when the system is converted to include an air conditioner, there may not be any drain available near the installation. The condensate pump is required to remove the water produced from dehumidifying the home.

Remember, an air conditioner also removes humidity.
