                    It's About Time!

Anyone who has researched having a heater or air conditioner replaced or installed, or even looked at any of the familiar web sites, EPA, ACCA, NATE, IIAQC, ARI, ACEEE, CEE, (just to name a few) and even those of most manufacturers have been made aware that a proper installation is essential to getting the efficiency of your new system promised by the contractor you hire.  Unfortunately, there has never been any official document to specify just what is a Proper installation, that is until now.

Equally unfortunately, there are some contractors who are after the quick buck and will install a new system knowing the installation will not produce the optimum efficiency that  it is capable of. (Let me give some a break, maybe they just don't know).  The homeowner, who understandably, is not familiar with this process, thinks that the     new 15 SEER system is great compared to their 20 year old 6 SEER system and is saving them money each     month.  What they don't know is that this 15 SEER system is only producing 11 SEER, and yes it is better than 6 SEER, but the big bucks they paid for the 15 SEER was wasted, and this waste will continue until someone fixes         it correctly.  An even more troubling situation is when there is a 13 SEER system installed incorrectly and this      system doesn't produce any more efficiency than the older system did.

                  HVAC Quality Installation Specification
                  STANDARD NO:  ANSI / ACCA  5  QI - 2007

This specification has been in development for over two  years, it was produced and developed through the hard work of professionals from a variety of disciplines who for the most part volunteered their time and expertise to raise   the bar for improved competencies of contractors and protect the average consumer as well as our environment.

We are proud to be listed as a contributor to this standard, and It would be notable to at least skim through the acknowledgments to see the rest of this diverse group.  The specification is actually 30 pages in length and may at this time (Nov 2007) be viewed at the ACCA web site, it is also available for purchase.    http://www.acca.org/consumer/installing/
